Jr. High Math and Literature
Mrs. Kate Lowrey All classes will go to the library and have spelling tests weekly. Please encourage your child to study their spelling words. Students are required to have a book to read at all times. In addition to the option of checking out library books weekly, I maintain a classroom library. Most math work is done in math notebooks, which will be collected and graded periodically. Students will have daily (almost) math quizzes based on the previous day’s lesson and homework. I am available most days before school as early as 7:15 and most days after school until 4:15. I encourage your student to take advantage of the opportunity to get one-on-one help when necessary. Additionally, students and/or parents may call me at home, 726-6457, until 9:00 p.m. or any time during the weekend with questions. Note for March/April: 6th and 7th Grades are reading “Where the Red Fern Grows.” Each student has received a calendar outlining when study guides are due and when quizzes are. Discussion of the book and related vocabulary will take place in class. 8th grade is reading “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” They have also received a calendar outlining dates for study guides and quizzes. Class discussions over vocabulary and major themes/plot will take place daily.
Week of March 23, 2009
Remember that each of the textbooks has websites that offer support to students. The sixth and seventh grade site is www.classzone.com. It is maintained by McDougal-Littell. Our books have a 2004 copyright and are titled Middle School Mathematics, Course 1 and Course 2 respectively. The eighth grade site is maintained by Glencoe and is www.glencoe.com/sec/math/prealg/mathnet. Our book is the 2001 edition. ************************************************************************************ The websites below have games that relate to many different activities in math. They are especially helpful in practicing percents, decimals, and fractions. Try them--you will enjoy them!!
